GradGuard, an authority at designing and implementing student benefit programs that help institutions of higher education to attract and retain students, is pleased to announce the launch of the GradGuard “Emerging Housing Professional” Scholarship for residential life and housing professionals.
For years, our team at GradGuard has felt that the values of ACUHO-I and its member institutions, directly align with the mission we set out to achieve. We each share a common interest when it comes to issues related to student advocacy, creating a sense of belonging, professional development and helping students overcome situations that could otherwise become barriers to them completing their education. While we are proud of the ways that we have been able to give back to the residence life and housing profession, we continue to look for opportunities to show our appreciation to the profession as a whole.
GradGuard believes that by investing in the growth and development of ACUHO-I members, the profession itself benefits. In turn, we are thrilled to announce this new initiative, which is specifically designed for mid-level residence life and housing professionals. For many mid-level specialists, promoting student success is more than a job. GradGuard knows that supporting their access to events like the ACUHO-I Annual Conference and Exhibition is a great investment in their professional development. The 2018 ACUHO-I Annual Conference will be held in Denver Colorado.
“Mid-level professionals are asked to assume increasingly complex responsibilities, often with little or no training,” stated, John Fees, CEO & Co-Founder of GradGuard. Fees went on to add, “It’s also evident that as they continue to mature, having a support network becomes increasingly important to their retention within the field. The more one advances in their career, the harder it is to find that next group of campus-based colleagues who understand the critical work that mid-level professionals do to “Make Campus Home” for hundreds or even thousands of students. Our goal is to have GradGuard’s sponsorship grow so we can support multiple mid-level professionals participation at ACUHO-I each year and help this group prosper.”
The GradGuard “Emerging Housing Professional” Scholarship will be presented annually to a mid-level professional in their first five to seven years of full-time, Residence Life and Housing employment. The recipient, will have demonstrated outstanding service to their campus, profession and the students at their institution.
The inaugural receipt for the award is, Rhett Burden, Assistant Director for Housing and Residence Life at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA.
“Rhett’s commitment to the profession is evident through his willingness to mentor other professionals and present at local and national conferences. He has consistently volunteered his time and energy to professional associations, like ACUHO-I and WACUHO and is highly regarded by his peers at his home institution for putting the needs of students first”, stated Steven Fucci, Vice President for Campus Development at GradGuard. “Our team is proud to call Rhett a friend of the organization and honored to make him the inaugural recipient of this award
